NFNL’s Economic Empowerment Program is a comprehensive, four-phase program for adult survivors of sex trafficking to attain financial self-sufficiency. Survivors take part in customized programming which can include the following:
Career readiness training from Economic Empowerment Specialists
Educational support at our Learning Academy
Legal support at our Legal Advocacy Clinic
Employment access and coaching through Employment Partnerships and Liberty Street Garden
Earned financial incentives and support for basic needs
Texas is ranked the second-highest state in the U.S. for human trafficking prevalence, and Dallas is one of the most impacted cities. Participants of NFNL’s programs often experience extreme poverty prior to joining. About 65% are unemployed and nearly 80% live below the poverty line. Many lack formal education, job skills, or financial literacy, and face significant trauma that interferes with work stability.
With GrantTank support, NFNL will:
Advance economic independence
Increase financial literacy
Support holistic well-being
The Jensen Project is proud to fund organizations that create sustainable, trauma-informed systems of support, and NFNL stands out for its professionalism, vision, and deep commitment to the dignity of survivors.
In our review, we were especially moved by:
Their transparent and thorough application, tailored to our GrantTank priorities
The presence of survivors on staff, ensuring authentic, peer-informed care
Their clear-eyed understanding of safety risks, especially in navigating public programs with potential exposure to traffickers
NFNL is helping to break the cycle of exploitation not just by offering emergency relief, but by investing in futures. This grant is an investment in their model and in the survivors whose lives they help transform every day.
