Since 2001, Wellspring Living has pioneered care for sex trafficking victims, expanding to include youth through their Girls’ Residential Program in 2008 and community-based services like employment training and apprenticeships since 2014. They continue to lead in Georgia’s anti-trafficking efforts, providing training to numerous organizations and individuals while serving over 2,100 victims since their inception.
The Jensen Project has awarded Wellspring Living a grant to support their “Bridge Community Transitional Housing” program. This initiative provides stable housing and comprehensive support services to survivors of trafficking and their children, fostering autonomy, stability, and hope within a nurturing community environment. The funding ensures ongoing access to safe and supportive environments, crucial for these survivors as they transition towards sustainable independence.
This grant underscores The Jensen Project’s commitment to combating sexual violence by supporting survivor-centered transitional housing initiatives.
Human trafficking is a grave human rights abuse, with Atlanta noted for its significant underground commercial sex economy. Trafficking victims face immense challenges including housing instability, isolation, severe trauma, and mental health needs comparable to combat veterans and victims of state-organized torture.
All participants are identified as low or moderate income, having experienced sexual abuse or exploitation. Many arrive with substance abuse and mental health issues. The Bridge Community program serves as a lifeline, offering safe housing and empowering survivors to make informed decisions, access care, and achieve long-term stability.
Wellspring Living’s campus is lovely, with separate buildings for adults and minors, ensuring tailored care for each group.
The tour of their Bridge community was particularly impressive. The intentionality behind their trauma-informed approach was evident, from the colors on the walls to the quotes on the doors. They offer a wide range of life skills activities, including a basketball court, outdoor garden areas, and cooking classes, creating a holistic environment for healing and growth.
Wellspring Living also stood out for their focus on culture and lived experience. They have a Chief Culture and Strategy Officer dedicated to understanding and integrating the lived experiences of survivors and allies. This role ensures that their programs honor individual experiences while fostering collaboration and learning from both nonprofit and for-profit sectors.
The CEO’s involvement in daily activities and programming, along with their strategic delegation to knowledgeable team members, showcased a balanced and effective leadership style. Their secure location, complete with an apartment layout tour, highlighted the spacious and thoughtfully designed living spaces for adult residents.
Wellspring Living’s approach to fostering a collaborative environment and their innovative culture initiatives make them a valuable partner. Their programs not only benefit the survivors they serve but also provide valuable insights and best practices that can be shared with other organizations. Their presence ensures that we maintain a strong partnership in the Atlanta area, even amidst potential changes with other local organizations.
